Village visits arranged at the gate tend to be brief, transactional and rehearsed. Visits arranged directly with a family, over time, are something else entirely.
Our Loita Hills programme is booked with the same three families each season. Fees are agreed in advance, paid to the community group, and cover the school as well as the hosts.
Ask before photographing anyone. It costs nothing and changes the tone of the whole afternoon.
Come with questions rather than a camera plan. The best hours on these visits are usually spent sitting down, not walking around.
