Safari is thrilling and it is tiring. Alarm clocks at 5:15am, hours of corrugated track, and the constant low-level alertness of looking for animals.
Diani, Watamu and Zanzibar all sit within a short flight of Nairobi, which makes the transition easy. We usually book the coast at the back end of a trip so you fly home rested rather than wrung out.
The reef off Diani is best from October to March when visibility is at its clearest. A sunset dhow sail is the cheapest luxury on the entire itinerary.
Practically: leave a full day buffer between your last game drive and any international flight. Weather delays on light aircraft are normal, not exceptional.
